What we're working toward

What success looks like.

We track our work in two registers: outcomes for the environments and communities we work in, and outcomes for the science. The categories below are what we measure. The numbers will appear here as we collect them.

About this page

This page describes the categories of impact we're working toward. We don't publish measured numbers yet because we don't have measured numbers worth publishing. The first annual report will replace the categories with measured values; the categories are here so partners and reviewers know what we intend to measure.

Categories of outcome

What we intend to measure.

The categories below are how we think about the work. Measured values will appear here as the data room fills in.

Field

Volume of biomass collected

How much material we collect, by site and by season. The baseline we measure against the partner's downstream throughput.

Region

Active sites and partners

The number of coastal sites and partner relationships that are active vs. dormant. Breadth-of-presence is itself an outcome.

Carbon

Net carbon balance

Per-unit-output CO₂e avoided vs. a fossil-fuel baseline. This is the headline environmental number, and we'll report it conservatively.

Economics

Unit economics

Variable cost per unit of useful output, capital intensity per unit of capacity. The numbers that determine whether the work is a real business.

How we'll measure

Methodology, when we have one.

External impact numbers will be modeled from material-flow assumptions during the first year and replaced with measured values as the work produces them. The methodology will be published with the first annual report so partners and reviewers can interrogate the numbers, not just accept them. Until then, the categories are the commitment; the values are coming.

An annual report is coming.

Our first annual report will cover the period from incorporation to year-end and will replace the categories above with measured numbers. Subscribe to the updates feed to be notified when it's published.
