Coastal research site at dawn

Before it reaches shore.

Brisa Haal collects and studies sargassum in open water, in the conditions it actually exists in, before degradation changes what the science can find. We are an independent applied research company. We started in 2026.

The material most researchers are working with is already compromised.

Beach-cast sargassum and pelagic sargassum are not the same thing. By the time the material reaches shore it has been oxidized, heated, and stripped of compounds that degrade quickly in air. Most of the published research on sargassum composition and potential uses is based on what washes up. We think that is a meaningful gap in the science. We are collecting material in the water, at the source, to find out what is actually there.

We are open.

Brisa Haal filed as an LLC in Illinois this month. We are two people with a specific research question and the operational infrastructure to go answer it. We are building field collection relationships in Florida and the Caribbean, and we are looking for lab partners, material suppliers, and people who know something useful about pelagic sargassum collection. The contact form goes to a real inbox.

If you work in this space and something on this page made you want to ask a question, ask it.
